Project Background
“Bullying is a slow and painful death, and probably someone you know right now is suffering in silence.” Bullying is caused by the imbalance of power between predators and bullies and feeds off the victim’s sadness and the audience’s reaction. Every story is a suffering, and everyone, not only the victim, needs to stand up and make it matters.
Project Overview
‘Dear Shelly,’ tells a story about bullying from a victim’s perspective, bringing the audience to the emotional state of a target of bullying. The audience empathizes, resonates, and more importantly, learns about coping skills for bullying through the immersive experience.
Virtual Reality(VR) employs 3D near-eye displays to give the user animmersive virtual experience. It is relatively affordable, home-available, and provides the user with near-realistic experiences but doesnot constrain by a physical location. Its immersive nature is ideal fortherapy sessions as it isolates the user from stressful everyday life, whichmakes it easier to build trust and bonds.

This project investigates how virtual reality(VR) can be used for educational and therapeutic purposes, mainly to increase public awareness of bullying and, more importantly, to help the victim to overcome it by teaching them self-help mechanisms.
